Frequently asked questions.

1. Is Soham still based in Chembur, Mumbai?

Soham began as a psychotherapy centre in Chembur in 2016. Since 2020, it has evolved into a collaborative, international space held by independent therapists who work from their own home offices — both online and in person. While the name remains, Soham is now a network rather than a single-location centre.

2. Who are the therapists at Soham?

We are a group of highly trained, self-employed professionals with diverse backgrounds, specialisations, and therapeutic styles. What unites us is our shared commitment to ethical, reflective, and non-diagnostic practice.

You can meet our therapists here.

3. Who should I contact first?

Our practice manager, Siddique, is the first point of contact for new enquiries. He handles communication, coordination, and administrative support, including paperwork and referrals. If you’re unsure which therapist might be the right fit, Siddique can help you explore options based on your needs and preferences.

4. What kind of therapy do you offer?

Our therapists offer depth-focused, relational, and trauma-informed psychotherapy. We work integratively, drawing from psychodynamic, person-centred, somatic, feminist, queer, and post-colonial perspectives — depending on each therapist’s training and orientation.

If you’re not sure what kind of therapy you need, we can help match you with someone who feels like a good fit.

5. Do you offer online sessions?

Yes. All our therapists offer online sessions, and some also offer in-person work depending on their location. Availability may vary, so please contact us to learn more or request a referral.

6. Can I choose my therapist?

Absolutely. If you already know which therapist you’d like to work with, you can reach out to them directly. If you’re not sure, our practice manager can guide you toward someone whose approach and availability align with your needs.

7. Are your therapists qualified and registered?

Yes. All practitioners associated with Soham are qualified and have completed extensive professional training in psychotherapy. Some are registered with professional bodies such as the BACP (UK) or equivalent organisations in their respective countries.

8. What does the name ‘Soham’ mean?

‘Soham’ is a Sanskrit mantra meaning “I am that.” It reflects our belief in the essential interconnectedness of all human experience — and the possibility of healing through care, reflection, and relationship. You can read more about the name and our ethos here.

9. Is this a holistic healing centre?

IWhile our name includes “Holistic Psychotherapy,” we do not offer alternative healing modalities (e.g. Reiki, Ayurveda) as part of the Soham network. We understand “holistic” to mean attending to the emotional, relational, cultural, and existential dimensions of human experience, not only to symptoms or diagnoses.

10. How does confidentiality work at Soham?

Confidentiality is fundamental to our practice. Everything shared in therapy is treated with care and respect. Furthermore, all correspondence to Soham is confidential to the practice. There are some legal and ethical exceptions to this—such as situations involving serious risk of harm or legal obligation—which are explained in more detail on our Ethics & Confidentiality page.

11. Can I contact Soham in a mental health emergency or crisis?

Soham is not an emergency or crisis response service, and we are unable to offer immediate support to those not already in therapy with us. If you are not currently working with a Soham therapist and are in acute distress, please contact a local hospital, mental health helpline, or emergency service.

However, if you are already in therapy with one of our practitioners, your therapist may be able to offer support around suicidal feelings or other crises, depending on their capacity and your ongoing work together. This will usually be discussed and planned for within the therapeutic relationship.

12. What are your fees?

Each therapist at Soham sets their own fees, depending on their specific higher training, experience, and location. You can learn more by reaching out us.

13. Do you have any low cost appointments available?

At the moment, all our low cost slots are full and our therapists are working at full fees only. We have previously had a low-cost counselling programme available with trainee counsellors at the practice between 2017-2019. At the moment there are no trainees in the practice and our new low-cost counselling service is in the works to be launched in 2026

14. Can other therapists or researchers get in touch with you?

Yes, we welcome contact from depth-oriented therapists, academics, holistic health practitioners, and qualitative researchers in psychotherapy, mental health, psychology, sociology, and related fields. If you're interested in collaboration, dialogue, or consultation, please use this contact form for professionals.
