Transforming innerwork in an uncertain world

Soham was created in 2016 as a thriving psychotherapy centre in Chembur, Mumbai. Since 2020, it has evolved into a collaborative international space, bringing together self-employed, independent practitioners who offer therapy both online and in person from their own home offices.

The landscape of therapy has transformed since 2020, unearthing a collective shadow and calling for a new way of healing. In response, Soham became less of a location and more of a living field: a space held in shared values, deep ethics, and a commitment to soul-making. We continue to grow as a network of practitioners working in relational, reflective, and socially attuned ways.

Why 'Soham'?

Soham’ is a Sanskrit mantra that translates to “I am that”—an affirmation of one’s inherent connection to the greater whole. It echoes a truth found across many spiritual and cultural traditions: that the self is not separate, but part of something vast, alive, and interconnected.

In the context of psychotherapy, we understand Soham as a quiet return to one’s deepest self. A process of remembering, reclaiming, and reweaving the parts of us that have been fragmented or forgotten. It speaks to the heart of soul-making: the work of becoming more fully human, more fully oneself, in relationship with others and the world.

This name reflects our commitment to therapy as a space where the personal and the universal meet. Where symptoms become symbols, pain becomes possibility, and identity is held with compassion, curiosity, and care.

Our Ethos and Approach

We are committed to depth-focused, relational psychotherapy that honours the complexity of experience. We value therapeutic work that is non-diagnostic, holistic, and attuned to the social, cultural, and psychological landscapes in which our lives unfold.

We approach psychological vulnerabilities through a trauma-informed lens, always considering the wider socio-cultural and political contexts that shape individual experience. Our therapeutic ethos is deeply informed by Critical, Feminist, Post-colonial, and Queer Theory. We strive to meet each person with openness and humility, holding space for difference while honouring shared humanity.

Our aim is to foster a client-centered appreciation for the richness of human experience—one that celebrates uniqueness, diversity, and complexity. Our dedication to personal and professional growth remains unwavering. We reflect often on our position, our power, and our responsibility as therapists.

Our Ethics

We follow the ethical framework set out by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). This guides our work through the following core principles:

  • Being trustworthy – honouring the trust clients place in us

  • Autonomy – respecting each person’s right to be self-governing

  • Beneficence – actively promoting our clients’ well-being

  • Non-maleficence – taking care to avoid harm

  • Justice – offering fair and equal access to therapeutic care

  • Self-respect – maintaining integrity, self-awareness, and care for the self

We recognise that these values may at times be in tension. In such instances, we commit to careful reflection, supervision, and being appropriately accountable in the decisions we make.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is the cornerstone of ethical and effective psychotherapy. Everything shared with your therapist is treated with care and respect.

We are committed to:

  • Protecting client information from unapproved access or disclosure

  • Being transparent about any foreseeable limitations to confidentiality

Confidentiality may be ethically and legally broken only in exceptional circumstances, such as:

  • When there is a serious risk of harm to you or to others

  • In situations involving child protection, serious crimes, or legal obligations

If such a situation arises, we will do our best to speak with you before any action is taken.

Clinical Supervision

Each therapist at Soham undertakes regular clinical supervision with a qualified and experienced supervisor. This is a space where we reflect on our work, deepen our insight, and stay aligned with our values.

Supervision ensures the safety, quality, and depth of the care we offer. It supports our ongoing growth, and helps us hold the emotional and ethical weight of the work with thoughtfulness and clarity.

These conversations are also bound by confidentiality. Client identities and personal details are never shared.
